Welcome to St John's

Built in 1782, our Grade 2 listed village Chapel  is one of the oldest Methodist Churches in the world still in use as a place of worship. It is on the edge of the Peak District in North Derbyshire. It is Grade 2 listed, and very much a living church with a small, regular and caring congregation.
Details of where we are and how to find us are on our location page. It also has details of our community with links to other local organisations, attractions and customs

Our weekly Sunday services are at 10.45am (though our monthly Messy church worship starts at 10.00am). Monthly evening services, generally of a reflective nature, are at 6pm. More details are on our activities page. Very occasionally services are held off- site, for example in the lounge of our local care home, Primrose Court. Known dates will be given below under "News and Coming events."
We are part of the High Peak Methodist Circuit (https://sites.google.com/site/highpeakmethodistchurch/) of churches in the Manchester and Stockport District of the Methodist Church in Britain. We also work together with St Matthew's parish church and St Mary's RC church as part of a local covenant known as Hayfield Christians together.

We take a full part in Circuit and village life, and welcome anyone to join us, regularly or occasionally. A full range of activities are offered. The chapel has an induction loop, wheelchair access, and a disabled toilet. There is a car park, and a small garden, which is kept as a quiet outdoor space. The church has a Fair Trade stall, stocked with Traidcraft goods, open before and after our services. We also run an annual shoe box appeal, and have recently been a collecting point for clothing, toiletries etc. for the "Hope for Refugees" project.

Music is provided by either a pipe organ, a digital piano, or good quality recordings. All are welcome and resources activities are available within the church for children.
